Faculty at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri know the importance of media literacy education. As a result, students in the school’s Mass Communications program must complete a three-credit hour course in the subject as part of the major’s core requirements.
Lindenwood University has also hosted events during GMLP’s annual Media Literacy Week. Some of those events included the Bloggers’ Panel in 2007 and Video Game Nation presentation in 2008. For 2009, Lindenwood University is hosting two very important events during Media Literacy Week: Creating Media Literacy Standards for the Upcoming 5th Missouri Standards Improvement Program (MSIP) Cycle, a presentation by Sharon Hoge, Director, Curriculum and Literacy Services, and Curt Fuchs, curriculum Specialist, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE); and Frank Baker Workshop for Teachers – Creating Media Smart Students: Media Literacy for 21st Century Learning.
Lindenwood University has also supported the efforts of GMLP by coordinating a video production internship program. Students are able to produce short videos for the web about GMLP events and happenings all the while honing their skills as future media creators. To complete the video projects, they utilize the School of Communication’s cameras, editing software, and the studio facilities.
