Lindenwood University Professors Andrew Smith & Jason Lively present thought-provoking community discussion:
3-D printing is poised to become one of the most impacting new technologies in our digital era. The ability to quickly and easily duplicate physical objects will compromise manufacturing and copyright while also pushing the boundaries of creative expression. During this engaging discussion, we’ll examine possible ramifications of this technology and also cite significant milestones in its brief history, such as the Wikiweapons movement and websites like Shapeways.com.

are developing a passionate interest in the field of media literacy. But although these students clearly understand the value of this area of study, they are faced with a practical consideration: what careers are available to those who study media literacy?

Join panelists representing an array of fields who are major proponents of media literacy education.

Film:“The Singularity is Near”
This Documentary/Science Fiction film is set during The Singularity, an Era in which the world has been transformed by digital media technology. 2045 marks the beginning of this new era, in which digital technology has altered our environment and enhanced our reality. The principles of The Singularity are brought to life by visionary Ray Kurzweil, who creates a computer avatar named Ramona (Pauley Perrette). The complexities of this new world are dramatized by the plot complications that accompany the “birth” of Ramona.
Prof. Art Silverblatt and Prof. Remy Cross, Webster University, and Kim William Gordon, digital technology expert and president, BITNUS Technology Guide for the 24th Century, will discuss the implications the film.
